Our Philosophy

Hi, I’m Jess. I set up The Sleepy Avocado as I’m passionate about helping families get more sleep through gentle techniques. I am not an advocate of cry it out and instead, feel that given the right tools and responsive techniques, you and your family can reach a better place of sleep without leaving your baby to cry for long periods of time.

I offer a range of packages from routine tweaking, to consultations and sleep plans to home visits and will support you along your journey to a good nights sleep.

Sleepless nights are not something you have to endure or feel that they’re part and parcel of having kids. Let me help you.

I always knew I wanted to work with children so studied Childhood and Youth Studies at Exeter University and graduated with a BA HONs in 2010. Initially I thought I wanted to go into teaching but knew I didn’t want to go straight into it so after graduating I headed for the big smoke and lived in London (and Sydney) for the next decade, working in events and marketing. In 2019 I made the move back to Winchester (home for me) and got married and then in 2020 gave birth to my gorgeous daughter, Hallie.

Unfortunately I had a rough birth and long recovery and Hallie wasn’t a very comfortable baby which made the first six months much harder than I anticipated. I worked hard at her sleep and I really enjoyed learning about it.

I decided to study further and completed my OCN Level 5 Sleep Practitioner course through the London School of Childcare Studies, passing with distinction. Since then I have loved working with families to get them more sleep. I find it so fascinating that even a few small tweaks can make a world of difference when it comes to sleep and I know firsthand just how much better everyone feels from a good night’s sleep!

In January 2023, I had another baby girl, Ottilie. Ottie’s sleep journey has been a dream in comparison to Hallie and it’s really reinforced to me how much better everything is when you’re having good sleep!

Get in touch today to find out how I might be able to help you.

About
Jess

“Highly recommend Jess if you are after a sleep consultant who is sensitive to your individual needs and priorities. Jess was great at striking a balance between being gentle and me needing to take some action for my own sanity and wellbeing! We’ve gone from nights I was dreading with hourly wake-ups to two planned feeds a night and I have been empowered to reduce this further when I feel it’s right for me and my daughter. Thanks Jess :)”
